Drywall & Sheet Material Calculator — Wall & Ceiling Estimator

Estimate the exact number of drywall panels required for your room project. Accounts for wall dimensions, ceiling heights, doors, windows, and custom waste factors.

Standard drywall boards are sold in 4 feet wide sheets, with standard lengths of 8 feet (covers exactly 32 square feet) and 12 feet (covers 48 square feet). For professional estimation, a 10% waste factor is standard for rectangular rooms, and 15% for rooms with complex layouts.

Standard Drywall Volume Formulas

This drywall calculator divides your structural space into geometric planes and deducts standard structural openings (like standard doors = 20 sq ft, windows = 15 sq ft):

Geometric Area Calculations:
Ceiling Area = Length × Width
Wall Area = 2 × (Length + Width) × Ceiling Height
Total Net Area = (Ceiling Area + Wall Area) - Deductible Openings
Required Sheets = Ceil( (Total Net Area × (1 + Waste%)) ÷ Sheet Coverage Area )
